I was reading the January issue of The Economist. In it there was an article about corruption.
There was this graph showing the relationship between corruption and GDP. Data points are scattered but they fit an exponential decay curve fairly well. The amount (or cases?) of corruption increases exponentially as a nation's GDP decreases.
I guess it is not a surprise that corruption is related to economic wealth.
What makes me a bit uneasy is the realization that our moral or morality depends on money. Our morality has a price! We can't afford talking about morality if we can't even make our ends meet, or if we can't keep our stomach full. I might have taken this a bit out of context. But think about it. I think, to certain extent, this is true. Sad, but true.

I think politics is always dirty. I was watching Larry King's old clip (not sure when was it taped) with an interview with former president - Ford. In the interview, Ford stressed again on the importance for young people to participate in civil services, and public office and serve the country. There are always bad apples in all kind of industry, so it's understandable that corruption still exist s today. Think about all the sponsor to help either party to run president ... and think about some public policies have been changed in favor of those sponsor (in Bush' case - it's no doubt oil company play some impact on tax changes, etc ...) ... again, just my thought...
You are right. Politics is dirty. Twisting the truth... giving favors... pork spending... the list goes on. I admire those politicians who try to do the right things. One will never be a saint and always do the moral goods. But at least, we should try.
Just watched An Inconvenient True. Al Gore did a great job explaining the science and the politics of global warming.
For me the warming trend is undeniable based on past data. The question is not whether the change is human-induced or nature's variability, but how we are going to deal with the consequences given this warming trend and increase in CO2.
