Somewhere, far, far away, there's a shitty island. An island without a name. An island not worth giving a name. A shitty island with a shitty shape. On this shitty island grow palm trees that also have shitty shapes. And the palm trees produce coconuts that give off a shitty smell. Shitty monkeys live in the trees, and they love to eat these shitty-smelling coconuts, after which they shit the world's foulest shit. The shit falls on the ground and builds up shitty mounds, making the shitty palm trees that grow on them even shittier. It's an endless cycle.It's a book that I recently picked up from the bookstore. I am a third through... and I cannot put it down. The story is so fascinating and dream-like. It is as if I am reading an adult version of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. I am certainly going to read other novels of his.

That came from the main character in the book. The guy was in a bit of anger when he said this, full of shit. I thought it was quite funny.

no i know whom you're talking about - man i try everything to run away from this author's work - no doubt he writes VERY WELL - but man, i think he's consuming too much "positive energy out from his readers! I think i lost all the "positive" energy when i'm reading his work!
Reality is "negative" enough... no need for any additional! hahaha
oh... i finally realize who the author is ...村上春樹-san... as a matter of fact, i used to read his works when i was in high school ...
村上春樹's "A Wild Sheep Chase" (Hitsuji o meguru bōken),"Norwegian Wood" (Noruwei no mori), and "Dance Dance Dance" (Dansu dansu dansu). they are all very great ... i read the chinese translation, and i am sure it's not 100% to the original japanese language. if i were to considering the 'emotion/words' expressed in the native japanese language.
The english translation is actually quite good. But I wish I could read Japanese too.
